Assisted Reproduction Live Birth Rates For Canada

The Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS) released the second annual nation-wide results on assisted reproduction live birth rates in Canada. They analyzed data from 19 of the 23 in vitro fertilitization (IVF) centres in Canada which voluntarily participated in their survey.

Data for 4896 IVF treatment cycles (including intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)) undertaken in 19 IVF centres in 2000 show that the overall live birth rate was 20% per cycle started. 65% of live births were singletons, and most of the multiple births were twins.

Preliminary results were also reported for 5,188 IVF treatment cycles (including ICSI) undertaken in 18 IVF centres in 2001: the overall pregnancy rate was 28% per cycle started, complications occurred in fewer than 3% of treatment cycles, two-thirds of pregnancies were singletons and most of the multiple pregnancies were twins.
